Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) & Why it Matters

Indoor air quality (or IAQ) is a crucial component of both your HVAC system and your home’s overall livability. IAQ takes into account all aspects of your indoor air: temperature, humidity, air freshness and air purity - all of which have a huge impact on your family's comfort and health.

The American College of Allergists states that 50% of illnesses are caused or aggravated by poor indoor air quality. That includes colds, flu, allergies and asthma. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the concentration of pollutants can be up to 10 times greater inside your home than outside. Additionally, studies have shown that the typical individual spends more than 90% of their time indoors and, on average, at least a third of that time inside their own homes. Given these statistics, shouldn’t we all strive to make our homes as comfortable and as healthy as possible?

Thankfully, we’re here to help! We offer a variety of products and services that can help ensure the quality and cleanliness of the air inside your living space. These accessories, in conjunction with your home’s overall HVAC system, can make your home healthier and more comfortable! Please feel free to reach out and ask us about any of these great products.

IAQ Accessories

Media Air Filters

A media air cleaner provides a cabinet much larger than standard air filters, allowing it to trap much more dust and other contaminants in comparison. These filters can capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, trapping 97% of pollen-sized particles and 98% of visible airborne dust and other large particles. Typically made of a deeply pleated, paper-like material, media filters provide 10 times the filtration of typical units. These filters require no electrical connections and can be applied to all gas, oil and electric furnaces, as well as compressor cooling up to 5 tons. Best of all, maintenance is as easy as periodically replacing the filter every couple of months - a process that is quick, simple and painless.

Ventilation

While saving money on energy is good for the pocketbook, a tightly sealed home also means that the same, stale indoor air is being recirculated throughout your home, every time your furnace or air conditioner is running. In addition, moisture is trapped inside, making your home uncomfortable.Air that's trapped in your home can also contain harmful, toxic chemicals that could be threatening the health of your family. Whole-home ventilation puts dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, viruses, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other airborne pollutants where they belong— outside your home.

UV Lights

A UV system brings the natural disinfection power of sunlight indoors. Ultraviolet light is well known to be germicidal (at certain frequencies) and is often used to keep food and liquids germfree during processing and packaging, as well as in aircraft ventilation systems to help prevent infections. A UV light floods areas of an HVAC system with UV light. As air circulates through the system, it is disinfected, resulting in a dramatic reduction of airborne bacteria and viruses. The constant re-circulation of air through the HVAC system also helps keep mold growth throughout the home or building in check. A wise investment that can pay for itself in no time, UV lights help to optimize the overall efficiency of your system. *Now Available from Honeywell and Ultravation!*

Humidifiers

Humidifiers can help you maintain optimal humidity in your home of 35% – 45% which has been shown to reduce the incidence of respiratory infections and symptoms related to allergies and asthma by minimizing the formation of bacteria and viruses, fungi, and dust mites. In addition, you’ll feel more comfortable while also preserving items in your home susceptible to damage and deterioration from changing humidity or dry conditions.

Air Purifiers

An air purifier or air cleaner is a device which removes contaminants from the air in a room to improve indoor air quality. The exact capabilities and type of technology used in air purifiers depends on the specific make and model in question, but all work to achieve the same goal. To learn more about air purifiers and how they work, check out our available models below.

Available Models:

Aprilaire 5000

The Aprilaire Model 5000 Whole House Air Cleaner is a central air purifier that cleans the air throughout your entire home. Installed as part of your central heating and air conditioning system, the Model 5000 uses a combination of electrostatic technology and traditional air filters to remove 98% of airborne particles as small as 0.1 micron.

TZAP Halo

The TZAP HALO is designed to eliminate sick building syndrome risks by reducing odors, air pollutants, VOCs, smoke, mold, bacteria and viruses. Easily mounted into air conditioning and heating systems air ducts where most sick building problems start. When the HVAC system is in operation, the TZAP HALO unit creates an Advanced Oxidation Plasma consisting of Ionized Hydro-peroxides, Super oxide ions and Hydroxide ions ("Friendly Oxidizers”). The outer housing has also been updated to be more efficient as the air flows around it in the HVAC plenum. Another new feature is a twist lock system that allows the electronics housing or head to be removed along with the Cell without having to remove the mounting flange from the plenum.

i-Wave

iWave is a no-maintenance air purifying device that installs in any duct air conditioning system. When air passes over the iWave, ions produced by the device reduce pathogens, allergens, particles, smoke and odors in the air, creating a healthy environment without producing any harmful byproducts. iWave uses patented technology, called needle-point bi-polar ionization, to create equal amounts of positive and negative ions. When these ions are injected into the air stream, they break down passing pollutants and gases into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor.

HALO-LED™

The HALO-LED™ is the industry’s first LED in-duct, whole home air purification system that is both mercury free and zero ozone compliant. The HALO-LED™ proactively treats every cubic inch of air conditioned space, reducing airborne and surface contaminants and pollutants through bi-polar ionization and revolutionary, patent pending, REME-LED™ technology.

Air Scrubber Plus by Aerus

The Air Scrubber Plus by Aerus substantially reduces odors, visible smoke in the air, and
microbial populations on surfaces*, utilizing the patent pending ActivePure® Technology. ActivePure consists of a special UV light and photocatalyst target, creating an AdvancedOxidation Process containing several friendly oxidizers. Certified Space Technology continuously protects and purifies the air, and attacks contaminants on all surfaces. This is a stand-alone plug in appliance and does not install into your hvac system.

AP3000 from ActivePure®

The AP3000 is a standalone device simply plugs in and is not associated to any type system.
The AP3000 from ActivePure® substantially reduces odors, visible smoke from the air, and microbial populations on surfaces,* commonly found in the average home or office environment. AP3000 also utilizes needlepoint ionization, pulsating negative/positive ion field generator, corona discharge air freshener, and the patent pending ActivePure® Technology – consisting of a special UV light and photocatalyst target – thereby creating an Advanced Oxidation Plasma containing several friendly oxidizers.
